Licenciado en Medicina en la Universidad de Oviedo en 1983 y doctorado en Microbiología por la Universidad de Zaragoza en 2000. Actualmente es Chief Data Scientist en Scripps Translational Science Institute, así como profesor de Genómica en The Scripps Research Institute.
