Professor of Physiology at the University of Valencia. He leads the FRESHAGE group working on healthy ageing, exercise and Alzheimer’s disease.
José Viña, born in Valencia in 1953, studied Medicine at the University of Valencia and obtained his PhD with Hans Krebs in Oxford. He is also Professor of Physiology at the University of Valencia and leads the FRESHAGE group working on healthy ageing, exercise and Alzheimer’s disease. He has received two honorary doctorates, from the Universities of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Rennes (France). He is also president of the Society for Free Radicals International (SFRR-I).
Dr Viña has been cited more than 24,500 times and has received several honours, including the Albert Struyvenberg medal awarded by the European Society for Clinical Investigation (ESCI) 2017 for his leadership in ageing and exercise research.
