TOREN FINKEL

PhD at Harvard Medical School. Director of the Institute on Aging and Distinguished Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Toren Finkel studied and received his PhD from Harvard Medical School. His laboratory is at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he is the director of the Institute on Aging and Distinguished Professor of Medicine.

For more than two decades, he has worked with the long-term goal of uncovering the molecular basis of mammalian ageing and age-related diseases by studying a variety of different cellular pathways, including stem cell self-renewal, reactive oxygen species, sirtuins, autophagy, mTOR signalling and mitochondrial metabolism.

In recent years, his focus has been on whether a decrease in autophagy could emulate ageing, as well as on strategies for detecting and modifying live mythophagy and genetic dissection of the mitochondrial calcium uniporter complex.
